How can scholarships be fun?

There are scholarships and there are fun scholarships. Pretty much every students needs them and for which you choose to apply is a matter of personal preference. Some students will only go for big serious ones, others are more flexible and will go for anything they are eligible for. There are serious things in life and there is fun. Then there are serious things that can be made fun. Those are the things that life is all about in the end of the day. While you are applying, why not look for fun scholarships and get more enjoyment out of the whole application process? There is some really cool and unique stuff out there that will not only put a smile on your face, they’ll also make you feel motivated to apply. I mean really, writing all those essays is getting pretty old, pretty quick, no?

What kind of fun scholarships are available?

There are lists and lists of fun scholarships available for the student who knows where to look for them. Here are a few examples of fun scholarships that are still open for admission:

Student Services Rodeo Scholarship

Deadline: 7/01/15
Available To:College Freshman through College Seniors
Award Amount: Varies

The Student Services Rodeo Scholarship is open to students at Tarleton State University.

You must be involved in rodeo activities to qualify for this award. Selection will be based on performance.

We’re assuming here they’re talking about ‘rodeo performance’

Imagine Cup Games Competition

Deadline: 7/31/15
Available to: College Freshman through Graduate Students, Year 5
Award Amount: $50,000

The Imagine Cup Games Competition is available to students with an interest in video game design.

You, or your team, must submit a desktop or tablet game using Windows, or a mobile game using Windows Phone, or a browser game using Windows Azure.

Games can support multiple languages as long as English is represented and be no bigger than 500MB to be eligible entries.

Did you see the amount of the actual scholarship?!?! And this competition really looks like mega fun!

Vegetarian Resource Group Scholarship

Deadline: 2/20/16
Available to: High School Senior through College Freshman
Award Amount: $10,000

The Vegetarian Resource Group Scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors.

You must have been active in promoting vegetarianism in your school and / or community; and have demonstrated compassion, courage, and a strong commitment to promoting a peaceful world through a vegetarian diet/lifestyle to be considered for this award.

Scholarship funding to reward your personal dietary decisions? Not bad!

Writers of the Future Contest

Deadline: Rolling
Available to: College Freshman through Graduate Students, Year 5
Award Amount: $4,000

The Writers of the Future Contest is open to amateur writers.

Your entry must be a new short story or novelette with a science fiction, fantasy, horror or speculative fiction theme, which has not been previously published.

Poetry and children’s literature cannot be accepted for this contest.

There are four quarterly deadlines each year (September 30, December 31, March 31 and June 30) with three prizes per quarter of $1000, $750, $500 and a yearly grand prize of $4000 is offered.

Every great writer started somewhere. “Amateur” simply means your work has not been widely published – so, as long as you’re not John Grisham, Danielle Steel or someone in the like, write away.

As you can see there is no shortage of fun scholarships and no excuse not to try out for at least a few of them.
