Top Jobs for College Students

When most people think about working in college, they imagine themselves living off financial aid and the minimum wage work they can get down at Taco Bell. You’re more than welcome to do that if you want, but chances are you need something more than a pint-sized paycheck and scholarship money to get by. Before you go broke just trying to start your future, you might want to learn about the high paying career opportunities that are available to you right now. Here are five jobs every college student should apply for.

Paid Intern

Most internships don’t pay any money, but there are some that offer financial compensation for career training. In other words, you could learn more about your career and make money at the same time. This will make it easier for you to find work after graduation, and it will help you avoid massive debt living on student loans. If you happen to establish some positive career connections, you might be able to land a job before you even complete your degree program.

Freelance Writer

As a freelance writer, you can work from the comfort of your own home and make more than you probably will right after you graduate. Every word on the web (including this one) has to be written by someone, and a lot of companies will pay people to write those words for them. Most freelance writers make at least $15 an hour right from the start, and some make as much as $60+ an hour with some experience. Think of all the beanie wienies that will buy you!

Bartender

If you’re over the age of 21, you could probably make good money bartending. This depends on where you live and what kinds of bars you have in your area, but most college towns have plenty of good bars to choose from. Bartenders have the potential to make several hundreds of dollars a night if they are good at what they do. You just have to be able to charm people and multitask. Instead of getting drunk on the weekends, why not provide the drinks? This is a much more profitable option in the long run.

Affiliate Marketer

In affiliate marketing, you basically get paid to promote someone else’s products or services. You could do this by putting affiliate links on a blog, on a video, on a social network account, or something else along those lines. You could even post product reviews with links in them, as long as the site you’re posting them to allows affiliate linking. Every time someone clicks on a link you posted, you could make money. Some places will pay by click and others will pay by purchase. All you have to do is draw traffic to your post, and you’ll make money with very little effort.

Tutor

If you’re in college, you’re somewhat intelligent. Why not put your knowledge to the test and make some money doing so? You could sign up to be a teacher’s aide at your school, or you could look for tutoring jobs in your area. You may even want to get a tutoring job online, if you’re having trouble finding something local. Whatever the case may be, you should be able to make some decent money in your spare time.

All of the jobs mentioned above offer great pay, flexible scheduling, and immense opportunities for any college student. Figure out what you’ll do best, and find a job to support you through school.
